    Dr. H. M. S. Priyanath received his BA Special Degree in Economics with a First Class from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. Soon after obtaining his first degree, he joined the Sabaragamuwa Affiliated University College, Sri Lanka as a College Lecturer in 1992 and was a founder academic staff member. Then, he was absorbed to the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka in 1996 as a Lecturer (Probationary). He was awarded a MA in Economics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and obtained PhD from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Currently, he serves as a Professor in Economics in the Department of Economics and Statistics, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. Major areas of the current teaching are comprised mainly on Macroeconomics, Development Economics, Economy of Sri Lanka and Research Methods. His research interests include Development of SMEs, Social Capital, Transaction Costs, Social Security, Gem Business and Mining, Tourism Development and Planning. He has published over 45 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of economics and businesses. He has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Head of the Department of Social Sciences and the Director of the External Degree Programs and Extension Services Unit at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. Currently, he serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
