    Profile

  • Professor Kaveenga Rasika Koswattage (K.R. Koswattage) earned his PhD from Kobe University, Japan, in 2012. Prior to this, he obtained his BSc special degree in Physics from the University of Colombo in 2004 and his MSc in Physics from Kobe University in 2009. Following his doctoral studies, he served as an Assistant Professor at Chiba University, Japan, from 2012 to 2016. Currently, he holds the position of Professor at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Technology in 2022.

    His research interests primarily focus on surface and interface analysis and characterization of various organic, inorganic, and biomaterials using synchrotron spectroscopies in the VUV and soft x-ray regions. Additionally, he is involved in the study of nanomaterials and their applications, alongside nanodevices and their characterization.

    Professor Koswattage recently secured a significant research grant totaling more than 370 million LKR (1.1 million USD) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as the Principal Investigator. His contributions to academia and research have been recognized with awards such as the Presidential Award, NRC Awards, and University Best Researchers Awards and many more.

    In addition to his role at Sabaragamuwa University, Professor Koswattage serves in an honorary capacity as an Adjunct Professor at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
