South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality (SAJTH) is a peer-reviewed, double-blind open access journal of the Faculty of Management Studies, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. It is a premier bi-annual outlet for substantive research in tourism and hospitality in and out of South Asia. The journal was launched on January 2021.

We are primarily interested in publishing interdisciplinary research in the intersection of tourism, hospitality, environmental management, business management, economics, and community which is conducted through qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approach. SAJTH is a premier bi-annual outlet for substantive research in and out of South Asia. We consider research papers, case studies, practitioner papers, technical papers, and book reviews for publication.
Nowadays there are millions of people who have grown up with tourism as a major industry, and they go into traditional businesses and reinvent them for this industry. We are facing the emergence of a completely new service based economy in South Asia and the Asia Pacific in general, in which some industries can disappear while others are likely to be dramatically transformed, and yet others dramatically expand. As for the authors, we would like to see papers from researchers with a deep understanding of tourism and hospitality, and its capabilities, who are not afraid of putting forward new bold ideas and discussing them. The pace of change is so high that communities often do not imagine the full extent of all the opportunities offered by this industry. At the same time, even the most advanced and useful industry is sooner or later confronted with the market, its host community and the laws of economics. We see our potential authors as part of a team, which wants to create a better future with the help of the tourism and hospitality.
Why should you choose us? We are not simply offering only a publication in this new journal - we are strive to attract people who are eager to participate in the project, and in the experiment of developing sustainable tourism. We are creating a community around the journal that would help academics and practitioners with finding partners for joint research. At the same time, the journal is refereed and it will be abstracted and indexed by the main academic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, ABDC, ABS, and etc. We thus see our role as providing a platform for research, commentary, and debate of the highest scholarly quality that contributes to the struggle to create a more just and humane world in the Asia Pacific, in which the systematic and continuous exploitation, oppression, and fratricidal struggles that characterize the contemporary sociopolitical order no longer exist, and tourism achieves its full potential.
Editorial structure consists of a Chief Editor and an Associate Editor, an administrative editorial manager (to handle the acquisition and publishing process), and a corpus of peer reviewers.

The manuscript will be proceeding with the reviewing process if the manuscript is in accordance with the author guidelines, please note that manuscripts not conforming to these guidelines may be returned.
There is no Application Processing Charge (APC) to submit or publish in this journal.
SAJTH applies mandatory check on plagiarism as the first step of the desk review. It is required to confirm that you are submitting your original work, that all rights in the work belong to you, and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere and has not already been published elsewhere. Further, it is required to certify that you have obtained all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you.
Editor has right to take the final decision to accept or reject the submission.
Before submitting your manuscript to South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality, please ensure you have read the Aims and Scope .
Research Papers / Technical Papers: The articles must be based on original empirical research in themes such as tourism, hospitality, management, economics, marketing etc. Manuscripts should be between 6,000 and 9,000 words including references and abstract. Title and the abstract should be less than 30 words and 300 words respectively.
Case Study / Practitioner Papers: The articles should fall between 3,500 and 5, 000 words excluding references and abstract.
Book Reviews: Reviews of recently published books on themes related to tourism and hospitality. The word range should be between 1000-1500 words.
All papers are sent out for review following a preliminary triage to eliminate submissions unsuitable for SAJTH. A covering letter is important to assist the Editor in his/her preliminary evaluation, and hence please indicate why you think the paper is suitable for publication.
The journal's policy is to have manuscripts reviewed by a minimum of two expert reviewers. SAJTH utilizes a double-blind peer review process in which the reviewer and authors' names and information are withheld from the other. Reviewers may at their own discretion opt to reveal their names to the author in their review but our standard policy practice is for their identities to remain concealed. All manuscripts are rigorously reviewed as swiftly as possible. The reviewers make comments to the author and recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief, who then makes the final decision.
The Editor or members of the Editorial Board may occasionally submit their own manuscripts for publication in the journal. In such cases, the peer review process will be managed by alternative members of the Board and the submitting Editor/Board member will have no involvement in the decision-making process.
Papers should only be submitted for consideration once consent is given by all contributing authors. Those submitting papers should carefully check that all those whose work contributed to the paper are acknowledged as contributing authors. The list of authors should include all those who can legitimately claim authorship, namely all those who:
Authors should meet all the above-mentioned conditions. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for appropriate portions of the content.
All parties who have made substantive contributions to the article should be listed as authors. Principal authorship, authorship order, and other publication credits should be based on the relative scientific or professional contributions of the individuals involved, regardless of their status. A student is usually listed as principal author on any multiple-authored publication that substantially derives from the student's dissertation or thesis.
All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an Acknowledgements section. Examples of those who might be acknowledged include a person who provided purely technical help, or a department chair who provided only general support.
SAJTH requires all authors to acknowledge their funding consistently under a separate heading.
It is the policy of SAJTH to require a declaration of conflicting interests from all authors enabling a statement to be carried within the paginated pages of all published articles. Please ensure that a 'Declaration of Conflicting Interests' statement is included at the end of your manuscript, after any acknowledgements and prior to the references. If no conflict exists, please state that 'The Author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest'.
Infringement of copyright, plagiarism, other breaches of best practices in publication etc. are strictly taken note of by SAJTH. Since we aim to strictly protect the rights of our authors we always probe into claims of plagiarism and or misuse of already published articles. Similarly, we aim to protect the Journal's reputation against malpractices. Special software may be resorted to check the originality of submitted articles. In the event of any article having breached any of the accepted conditions and or if the authorship is contested, SAJTH has the right to take action including, but not limited to publishing an erratum or correction; taking up the issue/s with the relevant head of department or dean of the author's institution and/or relevant academic bodies or societies, or taking appropriate legal action.
Prior publication: Any previously published material is not generally accepted by SAJTH.
Microsoft Word is the preferred format for your manuscript, with the text being 1.5 spaced throughout with a minimum of 3cm for left and right margins and 5cm at head and foot. Text should be standard 12 point Times New Roman. There is no need for a specific template when submitting your manuscript in Word. However, please ensure your heading levels are clear, and the sections clearly defined.
SAJTH adheres to the APA 6th edition reference style. Please review the guidelines on APA to ensure your manuscript conforms to this reference style.
Authors seeking assistance with English language editing, translation, or figure and manuscript formatting to fit the journal's specifications should consider using a specific scientific editing service such as SAGE, Peerwith, etc.
