The Inauguration Ceremony of the GEOWEEK 2021

The Inauguration Ceremony of GEOWEEK2021, which was organized with the purpose of bringing the academia and industry on to one platform and the first such event in the Geospatial community in Sri Lanka, was successfully held on 29th November 2021 at the Faculty of Geomatics, SUSL.

The event was declared open by Mr P.G.V Abeyratne, Dean of the Faculty of Geomatics, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. The inauguration ceremony was held physically with few participants in-line with the health guidelines concerning the current COVID-19 pandemic. All the speakers and the university community including academic, administrative and students joined the ceremony and the whole event online.

Even though GEOWEEK2021 was confined to a virtual event, the event has been privileged to have the online presence of Professor Rui Fernandes, Assistant Professor of the Department of Informatics at the university of da Beira Interior as the chief guest, Syr. Shanthapriya Perera, President of the Surveyors Institute of Sri Lanka, and Mr A Dissanayaka, Surveyor General, Sri Lanka Survey Department as the keynote speaker of the event. Additionally, the members from the Alumni Association (SUSAA) and the representatives from Trimble, Hexagon, eSurvey and Javed have addressed the event.
