Entity offering programme of study: Department of Sports Sciences and Physical Education, Faculty of Applied Sciences 

Objectives of the program of study
The course aims to train/educate efficient PE teachers, sports coaches, trainers, physical training instructors, and school leavers who are actively engaged in the field and conducting sports events related to physical training and sports. PE teachers and Sports Trainers are working in Schools and Teachers Training colleges while specializing in the field of Physical Education and Sports Training.
Learning outcomes 
After completing the course, the student teacher will be able to;
•    explain the knowledge about physical and health education.
•    develop skills in organizing physical education programs in schools.
•    develop the activities required for organizing physical education meets and events.
•    categorize knowledge about recreation, health, and safety education
•    recall knowledge about common communicable diseases.
•    classify the nature of injuries and provide first aid.
•    enhance knowledge about physical exercises.
•    create awareness on different aspects of health and fitness.
•    enhance the diet modification for athletes, under-weight, and obese physiques.

Required entry qualifications:
General Certificate of Education Advanced Level or equivalent qualification 
OR
Successful completion of an advanced certificate in physical education and sports coaching introduced by the Centre for Open and Distance Learning of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka
OR
Completion of NVQ level 4 followed by a corresponding cognitive bridging program determined by the Centre for Open and Distance Learning of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka may also be considered as equivalent for admission.

Admission process: After review the required qualification, selected candidate will be interviewed
Proposed intake: maximum number of students per batch is 50
Duration of programme of study: 24 months
