Financial Assistance to students

Two main sources of financial assistance available to the university students. Assistance is provided for a period of ten months (10 months) in a year.

 Mahapola Scholarships

 Scholarships are awarded through the Mahapola Higher Education Trust Fund. The Mahapola allowance on financial need is Rs. 2000 and student selected on merit receives an additional Rs. 50. There were 840 Mahapola recipients at the beginning of the year 2005.

Bursaries

The students who are not entitled for a Mahapola scholarship receives bursaries. University awards bursaries from funds provided by the University Grants Commission. The value of bursary is Rs.1900 or 2000 per month.. At the beginning of the year 2005 there were 748 bursary recipients.

Bursary and Mahapola scholarship payments will be made monthly at the Shroff’s counter or at the Bank. Exact date of payment is subjected to change from month to month but will be announced in advance.

 Other financial assistance:

Financial assistance to the students who lost their parents in the Tsunami disaster of the year 2004.
