Jeganenthiran has been a researcher and teacher at the Sabaragamuwa Univesity of Sri Lanka for over 9 years but has a wealth of experience developed as a practitioner. Jeganenthiran has a thorough understanding of the elite performance sports environment, being an athletics coach (World Athletics level 2) for 22 years. Jeganenthiran also is a visiting lecturer at the National Institute of Sports Science. Jeganenthiran completed his undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Teesside in the United Kingdom. He now lectures in the areas of Sports Physiology, Theory and Methodology of Sports Training, Strength and Conditioning, and Athletics.
Prior to the Sabaragamuwa University, Jeganenthiran worked for the Ministry of Sports and various national and regional sporting organisations for over 13 years in the areas of high performance and athlete development. Jeganenthiran began his 22-year career as a sports development officer and has held highly-esteemed roles at major national sporting organisations including Director of coaching of Sri Lanka Track and Field Coaches Association, Vice-President of Sri Lanka Athletics, National Junior coach, Junior Head coach, Canterbury Athletics, New Zealand, District Sports Officer ( HQ), Northern province and coaching committee member of TID project (ongoing) by Ministry of Sports.
Jeganenthiran completed his research training at the Universities of Teesside, UK and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand where he received a thorough grounding in qualitative and quantitative methods, both of which he applies to research problems in his chosen field of strength and conditioning and coach education. Through his research training and the depth of his experience as a practitioner, Jeganenthiran is able to bring a practitioner’s and researcher’s knowledge to solving real-world problems in the field of Sports.
Jeganenthiran has an extensive coaching background, coaching athletics at various levels in Sri Lanka, the UK and New Zealand. He has extensive experience in supporting the training process of elite and professional athlete populations where he has provided coaching and scientific support to a broad range of sports, particularly athletics. Jeganenthiran is also an experienced coach educator and provides guidance and delivery to sports governing bodies and private organizations to support the professional development of sports coaches, particularly at the National Institute of Sports Science.
