Professor Kaveenga Rasika Koswattage (K.R. Koswattage) earned his PhD from Kobe University, Japan, in 2012. Prior to this, he obtained his BSc special degree in Physics from the University of Colombo in 2004 and his MSc in Physics from Kobe University in 2009. Following his doctoral studies, he served as an Assistant Professor at Chiba University, Japan, from 2012 to 2016. Currently, he holds the position of Professor at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Technology in 2022.
His research interests primarily focus on surface and interface analysis and characterization of various organic, inorganic, and biomaterials using synchrotron spectroscopies in the VUV and soft x-ray regions. Additionally, he is involved in the study of nanomaterials and their applications, alongside nanodevices and their characterization.
Professor Koswattage recently secured a significant research grant totaling more than 370 million LKR (1.1 million USD) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as the Principal Investigator. His outstanding contributions to academia and research have been widely recognized through numerous prestigious awards.
His contributions to academia and research have been recognized with numerous national-level prestigious awards, including the Presidential Awards and National Research Council Awards.
Between 2020 and 2024, he was honored with the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher Award in 2020, 2023, and 2024, as well as the Excellence in Top-Tier Journal Publication Award in both 2023 and 2024. His exceptional research achievements also earned him the title of Best Researcher – Faculty of Technology in 2021 and recognition as the recipient of the highest amount of research grants in 2022 at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. These accolades highlight his dedication to advancing scientific research, securing competitive funding, and making a lasting impact in his field.
In addition to his role at Sabaragamuwa University, Professor Koswattage serves in an honorary capacity as an Adjunct Professor at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
