The process of developing Information Technology (IT) at the Sabaragamuwa University was initiated by the Center for Computer Studies (CCS) in the year 2001 in which state of the art IT Center was designed by professional architects. The Major obstacles that hamper the development of IT Knowledge among the undergraduate students and staff in the university are identified as:
Poor knowledge of web-based IT Skills among students
Lack of Computers and accessories
Limited access to online recourses
Long delays and high costs incurred for hardware failures & repairing computers
In order to develop human resources in IT within th e Sabaragamuwa University, the following major activities are proposed.:
I)
Introducing tailor-made Web-based undergraduate courses to each degree programme
II)
Improving practical skills of students
III)
Enhancing access to information available at the university
