Webinar Series

During the unprecedented circumstance brought by COVID-19 outbreak, the Department of Computing and Information Systems has commenced a series of webinar sessions with the aim of enabling CIS undergraduates to continue their studies at home, by utilizing advanced e-learning technologies.

The initiative includes an Alumni Talk Series further making this an opportunity to strengthen the link between the present undergraduates of the Department and its alumni around the globe who are currently holding reputed positions in the field of Computing. Senior academics from other higher educational institutions as well as industry experts from leading software companies in Sri Lanka are also serving as resource persons in the Webinar Series.

 

 

   Session 01

           

The first session of the Alumni Talk Series was on Writing Quality Code which was conducted by Mr. Dilum Navanjana, Senior Software Engineer at Ascenda Loyality, Singapore. The session was conducted on 03rd of May 2020 via Zoom for third year and fourth year undergraduates.

  Session 02

 

A very insightful and informative session on Microservices in 2020 was conducted by Mr. Randika Hapugoda, Tech Lead at Softcodeit Solutions as the second session of the Alumni Talk Series. The session was conducted on 10th of May 2020 via Zoom.

  Session 03

 

As the third session of the Alumni Talk Series, a session on React Development was conducted by  Mr. Lahiru Ratnayaka, Senior Software Engineer at the Bank of Singapore, Singapore. The session was conducted on 17th of May 2020 via Zoom.

 Session 04

  A very effective session on Design a UI: In 10 Simple Steps was conducted by Mr. Suresh Godakanda, UX UI Engineer at Pearson Lanka, as the fourth consecutive session of the Alumni Talk Series. The session was conducted on 23rd of May 2020 via Zoom.

 Session 05

   A very successful session on Test Automation with Selenium Framework was conducted by Ms. Oshadhi Nilaweera, Software Quality Assurance Consultant at Virtusa. The session was conducted on 31st of May 2020  via Zoom.

 Session 06

 

 

As the 6th session of the Alumni Talk Series, a very productive session on Microsoft Dev Ecosystem was conducted by Mr.Isham Mohomad, Lead Software Developer at KloudyNet Technologies, Malaysia. The session was conducted on 7th June 2020 via Zoom

 

 

 

 

   Session 01

        

A webinar conducted by Creative Software was successfully concluded with the participation of over 100 undergraduates of the Department of Computing and Information Systems. The session which was on Mobile Application Development with Flutter was conducted by Mr. Kanishka De Silva, Associate Architect at Creative Software. The session was conducted on 13th of May 2020 via Zoom.

Session 02

  Mr. Nilan Niyomal Nathanielsz, Senior Technical Analyst at Hoist Global Tech Solutions conducted a very effective webinar session on Careers in ERP. The session was conducted on 16th of May 2020 via Zoom. 

  Session 03

 

Session 01 of SCRUM GYM workshop: An Introduction to Agility and Scrum was successfully conducted by Ms. Janani Liyanage, Enterprise Agile Coach at Virtusa. The session was conducted on 29th of May 2020 via Zoom for the third year and fourth year undergraduates of the Department of Computing and Information Systems. 

 

  Session 04

  Commencing the Industrial Training Induction Webinar Series organized by the Department of Computing and Information Systems, a highly informative and educative session on the Role of an Intern was conducted by Mr. Anura Adhikari, University Relations Manager at 99X Technology.The session was conducted on 31st of May 2020 via Zoom for the for the third year undergraduates of the Department.

  Session 05

  Delivering important insights on how Blockchain is revolutionizing money, business, and the world, a webinar on Blockchain Revolution was conducted by Mr. Sharmilan Somasundaram, Senior Software Engineer at 99X Technology. The session was conducted on 4th June 2020 via Zoom.  

  Session 06

 

 

Mr. Omal Perera, Software Engineer at 99X Technology shared significant insights on practical approaches in software project management with Agile & Scrum with the 3rd year undergraduates of the Department in a session organized under the Industrial Training Induction Webinar Series. The session was conducted on 8th June 2020 via Zoom. 

  Session 07 

  Session 02 of SCRUM GYM workshop: Agile Values and Principles was successfully concluded, the resource person being Ms. Janani Liyanage, Enterprise Agile Coach at Virtusa. The session was conducted on 12th of June 2020 via Zoom. 

  Session 08

  Session 03 of CRUM GYM workshop was held on 19th June 2020 focusing on exploring high performing teams in which Scrum is not practiced as a rule book but as a model for high performance with a set of values, norms, working agreements, and success pillars. The session was conducted by Ms. Janani Liyanage, Enterprise Agile Coach at Virtusa.  

 

 

   Session 01

          

As the fourth session of the Webinar series organized by the Department of Computing and Information Systems, a very successful session on AI-Robotics Applications: An Insight of Development, Design, and Industry was conducted by Dr. Sagara Sumathipala, a Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Computational Mathematics, Faculty of Information Technology,  University of Moratuwa. The session was conducted on 22nd of May 2020 via Zoom.
