Faculty of Management Studies
About Us
The Faculty of Business Studies commenced its programmes of study offering a three-year degree in September 1996. After the completion of the Foundation Year and two Specialization years, students were offered with a degree in Bachelor of Science which had four major areas of specialization namely, Financial Management, Business Management, Marketing Management and Tourism Management. From 1997 to 2002 the faculty of Business Studies had contributed to offer B.Sc. Business Studies degrees for six batches of graduating students.
The name of the Faculty (Faculty of Business Studies) was replaced by the Faculty of Management Studies in 2003 with substantial increase in academic members who are specialized in various management disciplines. Upon the approval of University Grant Commission, the duration of B.Sc. Business Studies degree was increased up to four years by making the degree into the B.Sc. Business Studies (Special) degree.
At present the faculty offers B.Sc. Management Studies degree in five main disciplines including Financial Management, Marketing Management, Business Management, Tourism Management and EcoBusiness Management.. Students are absorbed to each of those specialized areas after completing two-years of common porgramme. The degree also carries a four months of practical training components which stimulate the learning by students in reputed business originations operating the country.
The Faculty of Management Studies as one of the largest faculty of the university is bearing good inventory of manpower as well as physical resources. Up to this far faculty is able to maintain the highest job absorption rate by its passed out graduates. Presently it engages in reviewing its curricula in to keeping track with the demands by its stakeholders as well as the demands by the environment at large.
Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Management Studies is
to provide a quality tertiary education in management, encourage and cultivate the students’ creative personal development with an innovative and practical approach to management,
to complement its blend of undergraduate and graduate programmes with skills and competencies to satisfy the real world demands,
to enrich the community with a greater sense of diversity,
to foster the ideals of teaching, learning, research and extension services towards the contemporary development needs of the country. |
